Blessings and prayers

When your confidence wavers: a blessing

When your confidence falters,
and you feel like the slightest breeze would knock you flat,
May you find a soft place to land.

May you get low to the ground,
Feel the weight that presses with full trust into the earth,
and the earth that presses with full trust right back,
And remember that you are here, body, breath and spirit,
And that means you belong.

If self-compassion feels remote,
May you know that just because you think something of yourself
Doesn’t mean that it is true –
No matter how fully your hurting heart believes it.

May you recruit a small inner voice to be on your team
May you ask her to speak for you against those inner bullies,
even if her voice shakes.
You may be surprised at how fierce she (you) is (are).

May you notice that, somehow, beneath it all
There is a firm and steady bedrock of self
that no fears or doubts can chip away at.

May you call upon the workhorse of plain, unglamorous determination
to keep you plodding forward.

May you leave the door open to the possibility
that things will be ok, and,
One day
this bruising experience
May even be the mended seam
Where your sense of self is strongest.
